Biography

Melissa Jefferson is an American track and field sprinter who was born on February 21, 2001.She won a bronze medal in the 100 meters at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Melissa Jefferson burst onto the running scene in June with the US 100-meter title. The 21-year-old had an amazing 2022 season as she ran in 49 races including winning the NCAA 60m indoor title and finishing with a gold medal in the 4x100m relay at the 2022 World Championships.

 

Jefferson had her big breakout in 2022, when he won the NCAA national championship for the 60-meter dash, becoming the first individual national champion from Coastal Carolina University. Within months, she hit the international track scene as part of the gold-medal-winning team in the 4×100-meter relay at the 2022 World Athletics Championships. And this year, Jefferson led another team to gold in the same event at the World Athletics Relays; She finished second in the 100-meter at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, exactly two months later, locking down his spot on Team USA with a time of 10.80—his personal best.

Working Life

In 2022, Jefferson, an athlete at Coastal Carolina University, captured the NCAA Indoor 60-meter Championship. She qualified for the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, after winning the 100 meters at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2022.Jefferson reached the final and placed eighth.[4][5][6] He was part of the 2022 US gold medal-winning 4 x 100 m relay team.She was also a member of the US team that won the 4 x 100 m relay at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

In April 2024, Jefferson was a member of the USA team that won the 4 x 100 m relay at the 2024 World Athletics Relays in Nassau, Bahamas. She won the 100 meters at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold LA Grand Prix meet in May 2024. In June 2024, she placed second in the 100 meters at the 2024 United States Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, running 10.80 seconds. Personal life

As a senior in high school, Jefferson saved his father’s life by donating stem cells.

When Jefferson was 17, his father was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, a disorder in which the bone marrow does not produce enough new blood cells; If left untreated, this condition can lead to leukemia (blood cancer). She got engaged to her college sweetheart last fall. According to The Sun News, Jefferson’s then-boyfriend of three years, Roland Wooden II, a former Coastal Carolina football player, surprised her by popping the question during a beach picnic in October 2023. Describing the moment on Instagram , Jefferson wrote: “Roland, thank you for coming into my life when you did … You make me the happiest person I’ve ever been and I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together.” The two had moved to Clermont, Florida earlier that year, when Jefferson decided to join professional track club Star Athletics, and one of her new training partners, fellow Olympian Toanisha “TT” Terry, would be instrumental in making the offer.

Jefferson also claimed victory in the women’s 100m at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold LA Grand Prix meet last month.
