Introduction

In Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan, the Higher Secondary Certificate, sometimes known as the Higher Secondary School Certificate, Higher Secondary Education Certificate, or Higher Secondary Education Certificate, is a secondary educational credential. It is equivalent to the final year of high school in the USA and GCSE and/or A level in the UK. History

The Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge (SPCK) was the first organization to work with the British government to promote religious education as well as practical education. In 1824, the General Committee of Public Instruction was established and it proposed to include moral education in the Indian subcontinent. A Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) was established in each province in 1854 on the recommendation of Wood’s Education Dispatch.

 

The Hunter Commission,[2] was India’s first education commission. They suggested the introduction of ‘A’ Course (Literature) and ‘B’ Course (Technical Education) and directed to establish higher education through private entrepreneurs and to place government colleges under departmental management. In 1917 the Sadler Commission proposed the introduction of a two-year university education integrated between colleges as higher secondary education. In 1944; The Sargent Scheme offered secondary education for children aged 11-17. The Akram Khan Committee and the Ataur Rahman Khan Commission were set up successively in 1947 and 1957 to reform the education system. Consequently, the East Pakistan Board of Secondary Education was established to conduct the examinations of secondary level institutions. This Board was divided and 6 Boards were established in each division as per Ordinance- 1961

 

After Bangladesh’s independence, the government directly controlled secondary and higher secondary education and nationalized several schools and colleges. In 1981, the office of Director of Public Instruction (DPI) was renamed as Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee said in a press release on Wednesday, the resumption of the examination on August 11 has been postponed due to unavoidable reasons and the examination revised. The schedule will be announced later. Earlier, on August 1, committee chairman and Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Prof. Tapan Kumar Sarkar had announced that the exam would be held from August 11 as per the new schedule.
