Bangladesh’s capital and largest city, Dhaka, is served by the mass rapid transit system known as Dhaka Metro Rail, or simply Dhaka Metro.It is owned and operated by Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL). It is anticipated to lessen traffic congestion in the city when combined with the Dhaka BRT, which is now under construction, the Dhaka Suburban Circular Rail, and the proposed Dhaka Subway. There are five planned lines in the metro rail network: MRT Line 6, which is the only operational line; MRT Lines 1 and 5, which are now under construction; and MRT Lines 2 and 4, which are currently in the planning stages.It is included in the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority’s (DTCA) strategic transport plan.
The first section of MRT Line 6 began commercial operations on 29 December 2022 and the second section on 5 November 2023. There are plans for or current constructions of other lines. A loan agreement was signed between the Government of Bangladesh and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency in January 2013. Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, the company responsible for implementing the first metro line, was formed, Dhaka’s traffic nightmare! To reduce traffic congestion, the government has developed a new electric train system called Dhaka Metro Rail. It’s like a subway train, but instead of going underground, it zooms above ground on a special track. With 16 stations, the first segment is operational and runs from Uttara to Motijheel.
The spacious, air-conditioned train can comfortably seat 1500 passengers.
